Education
Educational Purpose
CISV's purpose is to prepare individuals to
become active and contributing members of a peaceful society. CISV endeavours to stimulate the
life-long development of amicable relationships, effective communication skills, cooperative
abilities, and appropriate leadership towards a just and fair world.
For the full statement of CISV educational
purpose, please refer to
Info File R-10.
If you wish to see the statement explained, please read CISV Core Educational Content [renamed: CISV Educational Principles], Info File, Section T.
Educational Principles
Conventional education focuses on knowledge and sometimes on skills. However CISV education uses
experiential methods to develop intercultural competence. This requires a focus on:
- developing awareness;
- fostering positive attitudes;
- increasing skills; and
- acquiring knowledge
Quality Assurance
Quality Assurance in the educational programmes of CISV is the
responsibility of those involved in planning and executing the educational content of the
programme. Setting objectives, selecting an activity, “doing” the activity and evaluating the
outcome informs further planning. There is a constant search for improvement and through this
the assurance of quality.
In this hierarchy of need for education in CISV each level is dependent on the lower levels being securely in place to ensure a firm foundation.
