Peace Day Challenge
This year, as part of CISV’s focus on Conflict and Resolution, CISV is supporting Peace One Day with the CISV Peace Day Challenge—and we want you to take part! Your goal, and the goal of the Challenge is to raise awareness of different types of conflicts and participate in Peace Day activities on 21 September 2011. Peace Day 2011 marks the 365-day countdown to a day of ceasefire and non-violence on Peace Day 21 September 2012 - a Global Truce.
Peace One Day, the organization founded by Jeremy Gilley who campaigned to establish an annual day of peace, is calling for a day of ceasefire and non-violence on Peace Day 21 September 2012 – a Global Truce. Peace One Day is aiming to make this the largest reduction in global violence in recorded history.

The aim of the Global Truce is to reduce conflict around the world for one day.
This will allow all sides involved in conflict time to reflect on their part and consider other ways of resolving the conflict and achieving their goals. It will also allow for safe access of essential medical support and humanitarian aid to those who need it.
The Global Truce is also being linked with the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympics Games to remind people of the often forgotten Olympic Truce. The Olympic Truce promoted peace for the duration of the Games. London will be the first host city in the history of the modern Olympics to embrace the Truce.
Your challenge is to set up a project or activity about a conflict that has an impact either in your school, university, community or region. This could be anything from bullying in school, to gang fights in your community, or war with neighbouring countries. It is totally up to you to choose!
Your project or activity can be designed to raise the awareness of the conflict so that more people can get involved in ways that try to resolve it, or it can be a way of providing direct help to those who are suffering as a result of conflict. It does not have to be rocket science!
We want you to use 21st September (Peace Day) 2011 to raise awareness of the launch of the Global Truce in your community by starting your own 365 day countdown.

We are hoping that as many of you as possible will hold a public event to highlight your action/project and to show the POD film. Give your audience the challenge of playing their part in making a global day of peace on 21 September 2012 a reality. We will provide you with publicity materials including template press releases, to help you to raise the profile of your event through your local media (press, television and radio) and social media. These will be available on this page soon, so make sure you bookmark this page!
Your event could be in a school, community centre or even in a public place (with local permission). You might also want to hold your public event alongside your Peace Day football/soccer match or other Peace Day action so that you attract as many people as possible, it is really up to you to decide! Just make sure you tell us what you’re doing and send us photos, so we can show everyone else. And don’t forget to register your action for Peace Day on the Peace One Day website: http://www.peaceoneday.org
