Family Week

What can/should we do during family week?

The Interchange Guide states: "Avoid long, expensive trips; it can create a bad feeling within the group if one or two families take a long expensive trip during Family Week. Families should visit places that are typical of their family holiday, visit relatives, points of cultural interest or enjoy activities that would not be suitable for the whole delegation. Families must notify leaders of their travel plans and leave a telephone number where possible."

Travel to neighbouring country

Can we travel to a neighbouring country during family week?

There is no policy about travelling to other countries during family week, but in general IIC does recommend NOT to have extensive trips during family week. In smaller countries or while host families live next to the border a trip to the neighbouring country might be part of the usual life of the host family. In larger countries, crossing the whole country might also be inappropriate due to the length of travel.

The Interchange guide states, that "During the Family Week the adult leader must always be within 3 hours of the host chapter." The reason is, that the leader needs to be able to reach all of the delegates all time during the interchange. This would also imply that host families don't travel for more than three hours from home.
