Newcastle upon Tyne is in the Northeast of England. In the early years of CISV, the International Office moved with the home of the then volunteer General Secretary. At times, it was in Newcastle upon Tyne, in Oslo, Cincinnati and Stockholm. In 1962, it was established permanently in Newcastle, by Fred Crawford. Initially involved as a parent, with CISV Great Britain, Fred, an engineer from the area, was the General Secretary at that time. The Northeast part of England has long-standing ties with CISV. Children from the Newcastle area participated in the first Village in 1951 and the local branch remains an active Chapter of CISV Great Britain. |

MEA House is actually a very special office building. The first of its kind in the UK, it was designed and built by a charitable trust specifically to house charity offices in a positive environment, at reasonable rents. Opened originally in 1974, the building was renovated in 2000 and re-opened officially in February, 2001. The Princess Royal performed the unveiling ceremony, and visited some of the charities in the building, including the IO. |
