ThemeThe Big Issue: Homelessness and Deprivation in Urban Britain LocationThe IPP will work alongside homelessness agencies in Leed Dates December 27, 2011 to January 10, 2012
DelegationsPartner OrganisationThe IPP will work alongside homelessness agencies in Leeds to realize the power of the volunteer in helping to combat homelessness. The main partner organization, St George’s Crypt, has a care centre providing shelter, food and practical help to between 80 and 100 people each day. The IPP will also work with a number of other organizations to help provide ‘Volunteer Day Experiences’. This will show the participants the range of things that are been done to combat homelessness in Leeds. DescriptionIn order to explore what is being done to combat homelessness and what individuals can do to contribute; participants will develop understanding by learning about organizations combating homelessness. To provide a global context, participants will research local projects in their own communities and bring with them the information to present to the others. Where possible participants will also carry out a case study on one homeless person in their local community in order to personalize our work. Participants will also research the most recent law passed in their country which links to homelessness in any way. Based on both the local and global context, the participants will work during the IPP to design a project that responds to needs that will be outlined for them by St. George’s Crypt. Participants will cooperate as an international group to plan and deliver a short practical project that uses their own skills and knowledge to meet the brief they are given. Participants should be accepting and non-judgmental; it is important that participants view the people we meet without prejudice and do not judge or interact with them solely based on their situation. Additional useful characteristics include planning and creative problem solving abilities, a desire to work with the theme in Leeds and in their own communities, and a willingness to work hard and be open minded. Also, in order to work with vulnerable adults in the UK it is the law that participants must have Police Checks. Participants need to be pro-active in helping us to meet this legal requirement and cannot have any criminal convictions in the past. ContactFor information on how to apply, check the F.A.Q!
