Description

The Staff and participants of this IPP were living in a house on „ Hallig Hooge" which is a tiny island-like place near the coast in the Northern Sea. It lies in the middle of the "Wattenmeer" (Wadden Sea, a muddy landscape shaped by the tides), a unique ecosystem all along the coastline of the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. The Participants were working together with an organisation called "Schutzstation Wattenmeer" which has the aim, to protect and raise awareness about the area. The region is also an increasingly popular area for tourists, which puts the protection of the environment against economic interests. In various activities (country presenations, invited guest speakers, excursions) the participants were discussing different aspects of tourism, its dangers and opportunities - in their home countries as well as right in front of the campsite of this IPP.
During the project work the participants were integrated in many of the usual tasks of the partner organisation. This included mapping work and environmental maintanence out in the Wadden Sea, but also smaller jobs in the museum and educational centre run by the 'Schutzstation Wattenmeer'.
