Seminar Camp

The Seminar Camp programme was officially started in 1971. Its origin was Village reunions but the concept changed and evolved from its original idea to what it is today.

Seminar Camps are a three-week programme for 18-28 international youth aged 17-18, plus Staff. National representation is limited to a maximum of four participants per country. For the duration of the Seminar Camp, the experience is not only about being with each other but also learning from one another; about themselves, each other and the rest of the world. Seminar Camps are opportunities for these participants to be exposed to ways of thinking other than their own and to discover their own responses to the problems and issues faced by people in general today.

Seminar Camps are mainly driven by the participants, with the Staff serving as a support. Even though activities are an important function in achieving the aims, it is the living together that is key to serve its educational purposes.

The atmosphere of Seminar Camps should be constructive and open minded, which does not mean that everybody has to be friends with everyone else, nor does it mean that people will be smiling all the time.

A Seminar Camp offers many possibilities. Its programme is based on the desires of the group. The quality of the experience depends on the translation of aims to practice. It can be a very rewarding experience which is followed up at a local or national level.
