Staff - How to Staff

About Seminar Camp staff

In the Seminar Camp Programme, staff teams are made up of at least 2 Home Staff, 1 Camp Director and up to 2 International Staff members. The International Seminar Camp Committee, with administrative support from the IO, are responsible for assigning the staff teams, using a list of applicants approved by their NAs.

Who can be staff?

"People can tell you what it is like, and you can read the guide over and over again, but for really figuring out what a staff in a Seminar Camp is, you should try it".
Gonzalo Gully, CISV Argentina
  • You should be 21 years old (or 23 years old if you are the Camp Director)
  • You will need to attend a Seminar Camp Staff Training, unless within the last 3 years you have already attended the training, or staffed a Seminar Camp. Information on where Seminar Camp Staff Training Workshops will be taking place can be found at http://resources.cisv.org/training/. (You can still apply before attending a training, but will need to attend a training if you are assigned a position)
  • You will need to belong to a CISV Member Association who is able to approve your application.

How do you apply?

"As staff we have to know how to encourage the participants when they seem too lazy to do activities. Know how to slow them down when they face never ending discussions. Know how to be their friends but not their parents. To be a Seminar Camp staff requires a lot of effort! But the reward is zillion times bigger.”
Yuliana Dewi, CISV Indonesia
  • Download and read the important information contained in the Seminar Camp Staff Application Pack.
  • Send your completed Staff Application Documents (Staff/Leader Application Form, 2 x References, Proof of Age and Police Check) to your National Association. Please note, you should complete the newest Staff/Leader Application form, updated for 2012.
  • If your NA approves your application, they will sign the forms and send to International Seminar Camp Committee, via the International Office at helen.pringle@int.cisv.org.
  • For any further information please get in touch with your National Seminar Camp Contact,  the International Seminar Camp Committee (seminarcamp.staffassignment@cisv.org), or read the Guide

You have received an assignment - what next?

"The best thing about staffing a Seminar Camp is when you can see a person really change during the camp and when that person goes back home and becomes very active in the local community."
Nina Forsman, CISV Finland
  • If the International Office sends you an invitation to staff, you will be given one week to complete and return the Staff Acceptance Form.
  • Download ‘Seminar Camp Staff – Practical Information'. This includes important information about costs and reimbursements, insurance options, your administrative responsibilities as a staff member, and more!
  • Your priority should be to arrange your Seminar Camp Staff Training, where needed.
  • If you are not assigned a position initially, we will contact you again and ask to add you to the wait pool. We do receive staff cancellations throughout the year, so really appreciate having a wait pool to turn to! It is still recommended that you attend a Seminar Camp Staff Training, which is valid for 3 years. This makes it possible to assign places from the wait pool after the trainings have already taken place.
