Organisational Review

CISV International is conducting an “organisational review” that will be reviewing all aspects of the structures and work practices of CISV International, which consists of the International Office, the International Board of Trustees, all international committees together with the current system of international meetings and trainings. For the first time in its 60 year history, CISV International will be working with a firm of highly experienced external consultants to guide the process and ensure a professional and objective analysis of CISV International.

WHY AN ORGANISATIONAL REVIEW?

We’re looking to see if CISV is the best we can be, at every level of the organisation, so that we support the Chapters in the most effective way to achieve our vision, purpose and strategic priorities.
This Organisational Review was requested by the Board of CISV International and approved at the Annual International Meeting in Berlin 2010 (link to appropriate docs). As we reach our 60th year, this Review seems particularly timely, to help us look forward to our next 60 years with confidence.
We’ve put the Chapters at the heart of the Review, as they are at the front-line, delivering our Programmes and we feel that must be our focus if we are to achieve our goal of ‘better and more programmes’. Specifically, we will be reviewing all aspects of the structures and work practices of CISV International, which consists of the International Board, the International and Extended Executives, Committees and the International Office. This includes looking at things from how CISV International communicates with Chapters, to how we make important decisions, to the relationship between volunteers and staff, to where the International Office is located.

WHAT DO WE HOPE TO ACHIEVE FROM THE ORGANISATIONAL REVIEW?

At the end of the Organisational Review process we will have a better understanding of what is working well within CISV International and will be proposing ways to make sure that these structures and good practice are supported and celebrated. We will also have a greater appreciation of what is not working so well and we will be in a position to propose, what we hope will be, an exciting agenda for change and development based on our findings. We are committed to ensuring that any change and development proposed will be for the benefit of the Chapters and Programmes.

HOW WILL THE REVIEW BE CARRIED OUT?

BlueSpark Consulting (www.bluesparkconsulting.com) will be working closely with CISV International to undertake this wide-ranging Organisational Review. We have set up a Working Group to co-ordinate the process; the Working Group consists of International Executive Committee members Brett Vottero (President) and Pilar Villaneuva, International Office staff Gabrielle Mandell (Secretary General) and Denise Farrar, CISV members Jane Van Fleet (CISV USA), Tiago Basto (CISV Brazil) and Maru Ayam (CISV Argentina and member of the Resources Training Development Committee), along with Mike Caudrey of BlueSpark Consulting.

The Working Group has a demanding schedule and over the next six months will be:

  • consulting extensively with CISV Chapters, National Associations, International Committees, International Office and International Board between March and September and at AIM 2011.
  • attending Regional Training Forums, Regional Meetings, possibly some NA Board Meetings and creating opportunities for NAs, Chapters and JBs to use our materials to consult with your members.
  • giving feedback, updates and informal ways to get involved and give your input to the Organisational Review throughout the process.
  • running workshops at AIM 2011, where Bluespark will be presenting their interim findings.

All findings will be analysed by BlueSpark Consulting, and they will present their final Recommendations and Implementation Plan to the Working Group by 30 November 2011. The Recommendations and Implementation Plan will then form the next phase of the consultation process.

If you have any queries about the Organisational Review and the way that it is being carried out, please contact the Working Group directly at org.review@cisv.org (to be set up) and they will be pleased to answer your questions.
