Organizational Review

CISV International is conducting an “organizational review” that will be reviewing all aspects of the structures and work practices of CISV International, which consists of the International Office, the International Board of Trustees, all international committees together with the current system of international meetings and trainings. For the first time in its 60 year history, CISV International will be working with a firm of external consultants.

YOUR CHAPTER OR NA AND THE ORGANIZATIONAL REVIEW

Make sure that your views are fully represented and considered in this process. To help us to consult with you, we have produced some materials that will help you to conduct a Consultation Workshop at one of your regular Board meetings. Click on the appropriate orange button below for everything you need to run the Workshop, which should take about 90 minutes. Have your say and have fun!

Chapter Boards

The research and data-collection phase of the Review has now been completed.  BlueSpark is now working on reports and recommendations.

Thank you to all Chapters and NAs that held and submitted their NA and Chapter responses. In total we received 72% from Chapters or one-Chapter NAs/PAs, and 69% from Boards of multi-Chapter NAs/PAs. This is a resounding level of participation and will give our consultants what they need to understand how CISV International can best help our Chapters.

WHY AN ORGANIZATIONAL REVIEW?

We’re looking to see if CISV is the best we can be, at every level of the organization, so that we support the Chapters in the most effective way to achieve our vision, purpose and strategic priorities.

This Organizational Review was requested by the Board of CISV International and approved at the Annual International Meeting in Berlin 2010. As we reach our 60th year, this Review seems particularly timely, to help us look forward to our next 60 years with confidence.

We’ve put the Chapters at the heart of the Review, as they are at the front-line, delivering our Programmes and we feel that must be our focus if we are to achieve our goal of ‘better and more programmes’. Specifically, we will be reviewing all aspects of the structures and work practices of CISV International, which consists of the International Office, the International Board, all international committees together with the current system of international meetings and trainings. This includes looking at things from how CISV International communicates with Chapters, to how we make important decisions, to the relationship between volunteers and staff, to where the International Office is located.

WHAT DO WE HOPE TO ACHIEVE FROM THE ORGANIZATIONAL REVIEW?

At the end of the Organizational Review process we will have a better understanding of what is working well within CISV International and will be proposing ways to make sure that these structures and good practices are supported and celebrated. We will also have a greater appreciation of what is not working so well and we will be in a position to propose, what we hope will be, an exciting agenda for change and development based on our findings. We are committed to ensuring that any change and development proposed will be for the benefit of the Chapters and Programmes.

HOW WILL THE REVIEW BE CARRIED OUT?

CISV International has appointed BlueSpark Consulting (www.bluesparkconsulting.com) to undertake this wide-ranging Organizational Review. BlueSpark are a British firm of highly experienced external consultants, who will guide the process and ensure a professional and objective analysis of CISV International.

We have set up a Working Group to co-ordinate the process with BlueSpark; the Working Group consists of International Executive Committee members Brett Vottero (President) and Pilar Villaneuva, International Office staff Gabrielle Mandell (Secretary General) and Denise Farrar (Communications Officer), CISV members Jane Van Fleet (CISV USA), Tiago Wigman (CISV Brazil) and Maru Ayam (CISV Argentina and member of the Resources Training Development Committee),  along with Mike Caudrey of BlueSpark Consulting.

The Working Group has a demanding schedule and over the next six months will be:

  • consulting extensively with CISV Chapters, National Associations, International Committees, International Office and International Board between March and September and at AIM 2011.
  • attending Regional Training Forums, Regional Meetings, possibly some NA Board Meetings and creating opportunities for NAs, Chapters and JBs to use our materials to consult with your members.
  • giving feedback, updates and informal ways to get involved and give your input to the Organizational Review throughout the process.
  • running workshops at AIM 2011, where Bluespark will be presenting their interim findings.

All findings will be analysed by BlueSpark Consulting, and they will present their final Recommendations and Implementation Plan to the Working Group by 30 November 2011. The Recommendations and Implementation Plan will then form the next phase of the consultation process.

If you have any queries about the Organizational Review and the way that it is being carried out, please contact the Working Group directly at org.review@cisv.org and they will be pleased to answer your questions.

HOW DO I TAKE PART?

We can only get the best from this review if we get and listen to honest feedback from as many people as possible at every level of CISV. Take your opportunity to have your say –

  • by taking part in any workshops or consultation event organised by your Committee, NA, Chapter or Junior Branch
  • bookmark and visit this page, so you get regular updates and feedback on how the Review is going
  • by following CISV International on Facebook and Twitter for quick updates, polls and other easy ways of having your say.

And make sure you pass on the word to your friends in CISV, so they have their say as well!
