  • Each goal has strategies to reach the goal

How will we know whether we achieve our goals? INDICATORS OF SUCCESS
The IEC thanks the IO for developing an initial draft for discussion at the 2010 Mid-Way Meeting.  There are four indicators for each Goal within each Priority Area.  For each of these 44 indicators, specific evidence has been identified for each level of the organization.  In addition, for each goal the link is made to the overall reason that CISV adopted the SP – to do our educational programmes better and do more of them.  From MWM through AIM10, the IEC  communicated further with Committees and NAs on the nature and importance of these indicators and an efficient way of continuous evaluation and communication of results.  The indicators were adopted and incorporated into the 2011 Strategic WorkPlan approved at AIM 2010.

Report to date
The new SP period began officially on 1 January 2010. The months from AIM09 through the end of 2009 were a transition period to enable work to be completed under the previous SP and preliminary work to begin in order to lay the foundations for the new SP. This overlap enabled us to move smoothly from one to the other.

Actions taken during the preliminary phase of the new SP were reported on for the Mid-Way Meeting (MWM) in January 2010. The report can be found on Resources among the MWM10 documents.

At AIM 2010, we were a little more than half way through Year One of this Plan. You can find all the information on progress from late 2009 and the first half of 2010 in Rpt02-AIM10-Interim Report on Annual Strategic Workplan 2010. There is also Rpt04-AIM10-Strategic Communications Review.

After reviewing the reports and the proposed plans at AIM 2010, the CISV International Board approved Plan02-AIM10-Proposed Strategic Workplan 2011 including the above noted Communications Review, the Proposal for an Organizational Review and the Proposal for CISV International 60th anniversary Educational Think Tank
In cooperation with other NGOs
.

The final report on the 2010 Annual Strategic Workplan was received by the IEC at the 2011 Mid-Way Meeting (MWM) and was published with the MWW11 Minutes.

A report on activities from January to June 2011 was compiled and published prior to AIM 2011. There was an opportunity for the Board to ask questions regarding Rpt02-AIM11-Annual Strategic Workplan 2011, which was then formally received by the Board. The Board also had the opportunity to discuss a proposed Strategic Workplan for 2012 in detail and to determine what financial resources should be allocated. Plan02-AIM11-Annual Strategic Workplan 2012 was approved with the corresponding budget.

Education, Training and Evaluation

Read about the successful training
Writeshop held at the IO in January  2010.
The Education Department and the International Junior Branch (IJB),  put forward an idea enthusiastically supported by the Writeshop. CISV will select one of our Education Content Areas as a focus for each year. This will be done on rotating basis (where possible, connecting with global initiatives such as the year of Human Rights Learning in 2009) and will involve all levels of the organization and all programmes.

Goal C addresses the need for improved recruitment tools and the need to match skills to structured positions. Drafting of role profiles has begun for the roles within several of the International Committees.  These are essential for recruitment, training and monitoring of people in International positions. We aim to creatw a common approach to recruitment, which can then be reflected in and supported by the technical methods selected.
What has been done so far and what are the options going forward?
* Organizational Review and Training - Efforts made to find a consultant; proposals received; options to be presented for discussion and Board decision. AIM review Taskforce surveys.
The research phase of the Review will last through the end of September 2011.  Please visit the Organizational Review page for all news and materials.
* Recruitment - Open recruitment piloted for Committee positions
* Global Hosting Plan - Increased success in reaching targets

Profile Raising
Plans for the 60th Anniversary (Goal D) are underway and will be launched at AIM10. As CISV was founded in 1950, but the first Village took place in 1951, IEC and the Profile Raising Department propose that the Anniversary be “celebrated” from AIM10 through the end of 2011.

The Communications Officer presented the progress to date on the communications review (Goal A) and several ideas for testing different internal communications methods and approaches. In particular, she considered the applicability of some of the techniques used so successfully during the Obama election campaign in the USA.

What has been done so far and what are the options going forward?
* Communications Review – internal and external communications media and content reviewed by Communications Officer; report published and presented for discussion and Board decision at AIM 2010. Based on this review, a massive web development project was approved with a prospective "go live" date of early 2012.
* Embed profile raising – review of the committee role and needs, resulting in a motion to restructure ERC to deliver materials and support more effectively to NAs/chapters.
* Make the most of CISV’s 60th Anniversary – toolkit and product ideas; website and events developed; official launch of the Anniversary year and plans on ‘day one’ of AIM. Educational Think Tank proposal will be presented for discussion and Board decision. Visit the Anniversary website for ideas and initiatives.

Communication of the SP

One of the lessons learned through the evaluation of the management of the last SP was the importance of communicating the Plan effectively. There are major goals within two of the new Strategic Priorities relating to how we communicate internally and ensure that messages and materials are circulated and used effectively. In particular, the Priority on Profile Raising Goal A includes a broad Communications Review to be carried out this year. Linked to that effort and to the research project within the Education Priority, we are pleased to note the decision of Birkbeck College MA Student Karin Pointner to dedicate her thesis research to an examination of the communication process used for the new SP. Following up on earlier meetings with the Education and Communications Officers and the EVR Chair, Karin interviewed the IEC and IO Staff on their roles and plans for communicating the SP. Further research and surveys will be carried out in the first half of this year so that Karin’s report and recommendations will be ready for AIM10.
